Puppy Eyes Are Red. If your dog’s eyes appear visibly red or swollen, it could be a sign of something as minor as an irritation or mild allergy, or as serious as eye disease. Red eyes in dogs might be conjunctivitis (also called “pink eye”), an inflammation or infection of the outer membrane of the eyeball and the inner eyelid.
If your dog has red eyes, you can take care of some issues at home, while others need to be addressed at a veterinary clinic. The red is seen in the nearest angle to the nose, or even both eyes in the dog. There is also a typical disease in certain breeds like cockers known by the name of cherry eye that causes red eyes in dogs.
Allergies can cause temporary redness of the eye, but underlying health issues or genetic health defects can cause permanent redness.

An eye with glaucoma is usually red, inflamed, cloudy and larger than normal. If your dog has weepy eyes after a walk but the problem quickly clears up, then it may well have just been caused by a sharp wind or little bit of debris.
If you notice that your dog has red eyes, it may be due to one of these causes:
Red eyes occur when there are internal or external inflammations on the eyes, which causes a large amount of blood flow. Blepharitis is known to affect either just one or both eyes and the eyelids will become red and swollen. Epiphora treatment includes cleaning and wiping the dog’s eyes, possible surgery or a flushing of the eyes.
Other minor irritants like smoke, cleaning sprays, and perfumes can also cause temporary redness in your dog’s eyes.
