It usually affects the lower eyelid and it causes a “droopy eye” look. The dog’s eyes appear to bulge outwards due to excess skin around them. While those sad puppy dog eyes are a trait beloved by many pet parents, droopy eyelids may signal that your dog has ectropion.

Because drooping eyelids are appealing to puppy buyers, breeders are tempted to select dogs who display this characteristic in ever more extreme forms. My male at that age also had droopy eyes. Slight swelling on lower edge of eye making appear droopy.

The dog’s eye lids do not close completely when they sleep which can lead to dryness and irritation on the surface of the eyeball as well as corneal ulcers (open sores). My puppies right bottom part of her eye looked really weird when i checked up on her, the skin looked very droopy. Left eye very red (where it should be white).
